This is the reason why our products bear the <a href=\"https:\/\/pefc.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">PEFC label<\/a>. The label is granted by independent certification bodies and guarantees that the raw materials used originate from sustainably managed forests. PEFC is the abbreviation of Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification Schemes. It is an international programme aimed at improving the use and management of forests The resolution was passed at the conferences subsequent to the Environmental Conference in Rio in 1992.<\/p>\n<h2>Wood as a secondary raw material<\/h2>\n<p>For COSYCAT we use so-called secondary raw materials, meaning the by-product arising from timber processing. Consequently, no trees are felled to manufacture our cat litter.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"compostable\">Eco-friendly disposal<\/h2>\n<p>Our wood fibres are compostable. Therefore, the biodegradable cat litter COSYCAT can be disposed of in the organic waste bin or with household waste. Since our compostable clumping litter is very light, it weighs little, even when disposed of. When disposed of as household waste, COSYCAT is burnt and produces thermal heat, which can be used for heating, for example. In industrial composting facilities, the used cat litter is heated so that it produces hygienically safe compost in a short time. Whether you may put COSYCAT in the organic waste bin depends on the regulations of your local contractor. Your waste disposal company will be happy to advise you. Of course, you can also dispose of the cat litter on the compost heap in your garden. This is hygienically safe, if you make sure that the material can rot sufficiently and if you use only mature compost. Take care that the compost heap consists of a good mix of materials to avoid over-fertilizing the soil. No matter which method of disposal you choose, COSYCAT is eco-friendly in all cases.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"manufacture\">Eco-friendly manufacture<\/h2>\n<p>The only energy source we use to manufacture COSYCAT is electricity. In our production facilities, we use purely mechanical procedures to chop, grind and granulate the timber and to remove any dust. No exhaust emissions and no waste are generated during the entire production process.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"transport\">Climate-saving transport<\/h2>\n<p>The greater the weight of the product to be transported, the more harmful CO<sub>2<\/sub>\u00a0is generated during transport. Since wood fibres are very light, they produce only low CO<sub>2<\/sub> emissions during transport. Wir verwenden daf\u00fcr ausschlie\u00dflich H\u00f6lzer aus nachhaltig bewirtschafteten W\u00e4ldern. Holz ist von Natur aus saugf\u00e4hig - das haben alle schon festgestellt, die einen Holzstuhl im Garten vergessen haben. Diese Sp\u00e4ne vermahlen wir zu feinsten Holzfasern. Bereits durch die Zerkleinerung und das Vermahlen steigt die nat\u00fcrliche Saugf\u00e4higkeit der Fasern. Doch damit COSYCAT eine Saugf\u00e4higkeit von mehr als 700 % erreicht, sind noch weitere Verarbeitungsschritte notwendig: Die Holzfasern werden zu Pellets verpresst und anschlie\u00dfend granuliert. Im Anschluss sieben und entstauben wir das Granulat. Auf diese Weise besteht COSYCAT aus festen Partikeln, die nicht am Fell und den Pfoten der Katzen haften bleiben und die beim Einf\u00fcllen in die Katzentoilette kaum stauben.\r\n\r\n<h2>Gut f\u00fcr die Umwelt<\/h2>\r\n\r\nDa Holzfasern sind deutlich leichter als Mineralien, dies wirkt sich vor allem beim Transport aus. Tonmaterialien m\u00fcssen gebrannt werden, Holzfasern werden lediglich zerkleinert. Dabei wird Strom als Energietr\u00e4ger verwendet, was mit einem geringeren CO2-Aussto\u00df verbunden ist.\r\n\r\nDie zerkleinerten Holzfasern l\u00f6sen sich im Wasser vollst\u00e4ndig auf und k\u00f6nnen \u00fcber die Haustoilette entsorgt werden. Es besteht auch die M\u00f6glichkeit, \u00f6kologische Katzenstreu \u00fcber den Kompost zu entsorgen. Wird der Kompost \u00fcber eine industrielle Kompostieranlage entsorgt, so wird die Katzenstreu durchg\u00e4ngig h\u00f6heren Temperatuten ausgesetzt. Auf diese Weise kann aus der benutzten Katzenstreu hygienisch einwandfreier Kompost gewonnen werden. Auch \u00fcber den Restm\u00fcll kann \u00f6kologische Katzenstreu entsorgt werden. Holzfasern haben einen hohen Heizwert und k\u00f6nnen gewinnbringend einer thermischen Verwertung zugef\u00fchrt werden.\r\n\r\nDie CO2-Bilanz pflanzlicher Katzenstreu ist deutlich besser, da:\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Das geringe Gewicht den Energieverbrauch beim Transport senkt.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Die Holzfasern mit Strom verarbeitet werden, keine thermische Bearbeitung.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Die Katzenstreu \u00fcber die Toilette oder die Kompostierungsanlage entsorgt werden kann oder alternativ einer thermischen Verwertung zugef\u00fchrt werden kann.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<strong>1.5 Vorteile rein pflanzlicher Katzenstreu f\u00fcr die Verbraucher<\/strong>\r\n\r\n\u00d6kologische Katzenstreu aus Holzfasern ist deutlich leichter als mineralische Streu. Die F\u00fcllung einer Katzentoilette wiegt rund 5 bis 6 Kilo. Entsprechend nur ca.  1\/5  des Gewichts der mineralischen Alternativem\u00fcssen Katzenbesitzer aus den L\u00e4den nach Hause tragen, entsprechend weniger Gewicht m\u00fcssen sie beim Bef\u00fcllen und Entleeren der Katzentoilette handhaben. Wird die Katzenstreu \u00fcber den Restm\u00fcll entsorgt, m\u00fcssen sie entsprechend weniger Gewicht aus der Wohnung zur Restm\u00fclltonne tragen.\r\n\r\nDoch die \u00f6kologische Katzenstreu aus Holzfasern bringt einen weiteren entscheidenden Vorteil f\u00fcr Katzenbesitzer mit sich: Die Streu kann \u00fcber die Toilette entsorgt werden. Katzenbesitzer m\u00fcssen die Urinklumpen und den mit Streu verklebten Kot nicht in der Wohnung sammeln oder zur Restm\u00fclltonne tragen. Sie k\u00f6nnen beides direkt in die Toilette bef\u00f6rdern und runtersp\u00fclen. Viele Katzenbesitzer stellen die Katzentoilette im Bad oder der Toilette auf, da Katzen kleine gesch\u00fctzte R\u00e4ume f\u00fcr das Entleeren von Darm und Blase vorziehen. Durch die r\u00e4umliche N\u00e4he zur Toilette ist die Entsorgung von Klumpen und Kot umso einfacher. Muss die Streu in der Katzentoilette ausgewechselt werden, so k\u00f6nnen Katzenbesitzer diese gr\u00f6\u00dfere Menge des Materials direkt einer thermischen Verwertung zuf\u00fchren (im Garten, im Kamin oder in der hauseigenen Heizungsanlage). Sie k\u00f6nnen die Streu auch \u00fcber den Restm\u00fcll entsorgen oder in die Biotonne geben.\r\n\r\nVerkaufsargumente f\u00fcr Verbraucher:\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Geringes Gewicht,  weniger zu schleppen beim Einkauf, beim Handling und der Entsorgung.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Im t\u00e4glichen Gebrauch einfach \u00fcber die Toilette zu entsorgen.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Umweltfreundlich, da aus regional nachwachsenden Rohstoffen und thermisch verwertbar.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<strong>Nachteile mineralischer Katzenstreu f\u00fcr die Umwelt<\/strong>\r\n\r\nDer Markt f\u00fcr Katzenstreu wird derzeit von mineralischen Produkten dominiert, die aus Tonmaterialien bestehen wie Bentonit und Sepiolith. Diese sind preisg\u00fcnstiger als rein pflanzliche Produkte, bringen jedoch Probleme mit sich:\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Tonmaterialien sind schwer und verursachen hohe Transportkosten.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Ton muss vor der Verwendung als Katzenstreu gebrannt werden.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Ton ist biologisch nicht abbaubar.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Mineralische Katzenstreu muss \u00fcber die Restm\u00fclltonne entsorgt werden und erh\u00f6ht so das Aufkommen an Restm\u00fcll (Mengenberechnung siehe 3.1): Rund 50.000 Tonnen Katzenstreu werden in Deutschland im Jahr gekauft. Werden zehn Prozent \u00f6kologische Katzenstreu abgezogen, so entsteht ein Restm\u00fcllaufkommen von 45.000 Tonnen mineralischer Katzenstreu im Jahr.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Ton ist thermisch nicht verwertbar, deshalb muss er nach der Verbrennung des Restm\u00fclls in einer M\u00fcllverbrennungsanlage als Schlacke entsorgt werden.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Durch den Transport, die Verarbeitung und die Entsorgung der Tonmaterialien erreicht der CO2-Fu\u00dfabdruck von mineralischer Katzenstreu sehr hohe Werte.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<strong>1.3 Nachteile mineralischer Katzenstreu f\u00fcr die Verbraucher<\/strong>\r\n\r\nF\u00fcr die Bef\u00fcllung einer Katzentoilette sind zwischen 10 und 30 Kilogramm mineralische Katzenstreu notwendig.
